General Information The BISS Hosts Manager is a free application designed to help you maintain your HOSTS file easily and keep it up to date. The BISS Hosts Manager downloads the HOSTS file maintained at BISS forums by default, you can however use it to append other HOSTS files to your existing one, completely replace your HOSTS file with a new one, create a back-up of your exsiting Hosts file and restore it, add entries, edit, delete entries and much more… The BISS Hosts Manager was the first ever program to provide users with personal inclusion and exclusion lists, based on the same features you can find in the BISS Blocklist Manager for managing your IP Blocklists... The fact that this unique feature has since been copied into other Host Managers proves that the BISS Hosts Manager is way ahead of it's competitors. Using your personal inclusions, you can store your own personally collected entries for the Hosts file which will always be saved, even if you update your Hosts file. The personal inclusions list was designed to protect any domains that you want to add to your hosts file with out having to keep a backup file elsewhere, and to ensure that you don't lose those entries each time you update your Hosts file.. Hosts Manager will not accept or import any duplicate, invalid or incorrectly formatted entries. You can also use the Hosts Manager to check if your HOSTS file contains invalid / dead domains, and thus remove any possible invalid / expired domains. Note that in extreme cases we may decide to leave in expired malware domains due to their likelihood of re-emerging once people have been tricked into thinking the particular site or server has been shutdown. Some inexperienced users have made mention of finding parked domains or domains seeming to be dead and giving 404 errors as a bug or fault in our Hosts file, not realising the extent malware groups will go to hide their existence and fake their demise. Downloading the Bluetack’s HOSTS file through the Hosts Manager is really easy. If the download URL changes, you will be asked if you want to check the availability of a new download link. If you get any error messages during the download, please take the time to write them down.
Once you’ve downloaded the Bluetack’s HOSTS file, you will have 4 different choices:
On 1024x768 resolutions, if your taskbar is not hidden, the main window will show a tiny scroll arrow at the bottom of the toolbar to show clipped buttons.
Take a few minutes to read the help file by pressing F1. (A PDF reader is required) Add-OnThe Hosts Manager now includes an Add-On starting from version 1.7.2.0: B.I.S.S Hosts Switch.
It loads a small application which shows if your Hosts file is readable and it allows you to quickly enable / disable the Hosts file. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can add a toolbutton to the default Toolbar to launch the program very quickly. You can set it to load at Windows boot - Normal or in the Tray ... Note for Windows 95/98/ME users"unable to insert a line" error message. This error is a limitation of the Windows (95/98/ME) operating system. A Listbox can only contain 32,767 lines, sometimes only 32,738 lines. Unfortunatly I can't do anything about that. You can still use our HOSTS file but you won't be able to use the Hosts Manager to maintain it. If you use a smaller HOSTS file, like the MVPS Hostfile, you should be able to use the Hosts Manager. Note about VistaNot suitable for Vista - Use at your own risk. Please uninstall all versions prior to 1.7 before installing this new release.
